Judas Priest Live in Concert 25th June 1980 captures the Priest live at the The Rainbow Music Hall, Denver, CO, 6/25/80. So what is this album? Is it a bootleg? Is it an official release? As much as I can tell it’s a bootleg, even though it was being sold on legitimate sites like Amazon. It doesn’t really matter, as this is an album that the many Priest die-hards will completely enjoy. Priest had just recently released their "British Steel" album in April of '80 and were touring the U.S. In support of an album that has since become one of their calling cards. This concert also marked the band’s first appearance ever in Colorado, USA. What makes this an essential listen in 2007 is not the older tracks that are already available on the classic Unleashed in the East album, but all those “British Steel” rarities. Obviously no one needs yet another version of "Living After Midnight", especially one with sound flaws. However, songs like You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise", "Grinder" and especially "Steeler" are absolutely worth the price of admission alone. I was lucky enough to catch Priest performing their entire "British Steel" album in 2009 and it was just like I was back in 1980 again. "Steeler" was the highlight for me at that show and it is indeed the highlight of this show as well.
The sound quality isn’t perfect on this CD. The first 1/4 of the CD has some minor recording flaws that make it painfully obvious that this is a bootleg and not an official release. Some of the flaws are especially apparent during the echo portions of Rob's vocals when he is singing "The Ripper" and "Running Wild". As well the audio dips slightly during "Living After Midnight" but is brought back up halfway through. This show may have been a radio broadcast, or merely a soundboard recording. Who knows, who cares! What matters is that this CD captures Judas Priest during one of their most historic tours and offers a look into a band that was still very much in their prime, without the overdubs and such.
The CD booklet isn’t much to speak of but there is plenty of reading material, although be ready to get out your magnifying glass to read much of it. The small red on black type is very hard on the eyes. Also, I have a disagreement with something that was printed in the booklet regarding Priest’s history. Though there is no doubt that Priest were one of the bands that popularized the twin guitar attack, they were not "The First Band to Use the Twin-guitar Attack". Actually, history will prove that bands like Wishbone Ash and Thin Lizzy were also using the twin guitar attack early one. As well, Skynyrd were using the dual-guitar harmonies in the early 1970’s as well. Regardless, I do agree that Priest were one of the most influential heavy metal bands of the 1970’s, and this CD is a testimony to that fact.

Fabulous show, excellent
sound, shoot, I think I'd rather listen to this than the officially released
live album from the tour after this one. I actually attended two shows from
this tour when I lived on the East Coast, going to both the New Jersey Meadowland
Arena and Philadelphia Spectrum shows. If I am not mistaken, I think it was Great White that opened up for
Priest on this tour. In anycase, this California show is fabulous and features
some tight performances from the mighty men of metal. This concert is from a
radio broadcast was broadcast on ABC, thus the name of the cd. The sound quality
is better than some officially released live albums. (A+)
Judas Priest - Priest, Live & Rare (Epic) 1998
1. "Beyond The Realms
Of Death" (7:04)
2. "White Heat, Red Hot" (4:32)
3. "Starbreaker" (7:19)
4. "Breaking The Law" (2:35)
5. "Living After Midnight" (4:19)
6. "The Green Manalishi" (5:01)
7. "Breaking The Law" (2:44)
8. "You've Got Another Thing" (7:34)
9. "Private Property" (5:10)
10. "Turbo Lover" (Hi-Octane Mix) (7:21)
A fine collection of live
tracks taken from various singles, plus an extended remix version of "Turbo
Lover." This one is worth having for the first three tracks alone, as these
are tracks Priest rarely play live. Tracks 1-3 were recorded live in Cleveland,
OH in 1978 and were released as b-sides to the "Evening Star" 7" single and
the "Take on the World" 12" single. Tracks 4-5 were recorded live in Europe
in 1981 and both were b-sides to the the "Hot Rockin'" 12" single. Tracks 6-8
were recorded live at the US Festival in 1983 and were released as the b-sides
to "The Green Manalishi" 12" single. Track 9 was recorded live at Kiel Auditorium
in St. Louis, MS in 1986 and along with the remix of "Turbo Lover" were released
as the b-side to the "Parental Guidance" 12" vinyl single. Nice booklet complete
with lyrics, photos of some of the cover art to the singles, and some decent
liner notes.

DISC TWO
1. "What's My Name" (3:46)
2. "The Green Manilishi" (4:11)
3. "Rapid Fire" (4:01)
Ahhh, a collector's version
of 'Demolition.' I saw this one someone's trade list and freaked. Gotta have
that. According to his list, and the liner notes on the back of the disc itself,
disc two contains one non-album track and two live tracks. What disc two actually
contains is the non-album track "What's My Name" and new studio recordings
of two Priest classics with Ripper Owens on vocals. "The Green Manilishi"
is much heavier than the original, but also much slower and almost doomy sounding.
It almost sounds like a completely different song since the tempo has been changed
so much from the original. "Rapid Fire" is also much heavier than
the original, but hasn't been changed as much. I think "What's My Name"
is a heavy track that is probably a leftover track from the Demolition sessions.
This track sounds a little closer to the material on "Jugulator" than
it does the more modern sounding "Demolition." For a review of Disc
one, see the Official Discs reviews.

new studio version of "Rapid Fire" and "Green Manilishi" with Ripper on vocals.
These two tracks were also released on the Australian tour edition. For a full
