Lanfear' s "Another Golden Rage" is melodic, slightly progressive, traditional heavy metal. I'd say they were power metal, but this usually brings up thoughts of Dragonforce or something similar. The music contained on "Another Golden Rage" just isn't that same. Lanfear are a German band, but they don't sound overly European, like bands like Helloween, Rage or Grave Digger. I wouldn't be surprised if Lanfear were heavily influenced by Dream Theater, although they don't sound like the a Dream Theater clone. The band combines heavy guitar riffs and smooth keyboard passages with slightly progressive song writing to create their sound with only a few exceptions. "Eternally" is a smooth, melodic, keyboard-led ballad that is complete with a saxaphone solo. Frankly I think this song distracts from the overall flow of the album. It's not that the song is band, but it just feels out of place. Vocalist Tobias Althammer has a smooth, high voice that is both powerful and melodic. His voice really give distinction and character to this band. However, it really took me several listens to begin to really appreciate all that is going on here.
